Terms of use

Using Airplop, in plain words: what you may do with the app, what it does, and what we owe you.

Updated on .

This English version is provided for convenience. The French version is the reference.

Summary

  • A licence with no subscription, shareable with family
  • Your files never go through us
  • No account
  • Your consumer rights remain intact

These terms take away none of the rights the law gives you. If the meaning of a clause is in doubt, the meaning most favourable to you prevails (Article L211-1 of the French Consumer Code).

These terms and the stores

Airplop is published by Axel Fintz EI (Galen Studio); in these terms, “we” means the publisher. The publisher’s details are in the legal notice. We license the app; the store where you buy it sells it (see who sells the app, in the terms of sale). These terms describe the use of the app and our commitments to you, on all your devices. They never reduce your consumer rights.

App Store (iPhone, iPad, Mac)
The app’s licence is Apple’s standard licence for apps (the “Licensed Application End User License Agreement”, or Standard EULA), which we grant you. It is set out in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions for your country, in the section on the App Store; for Ireland, these are the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. These terms are our own commitments as publisher: they add to it.
Google Play (Android)
On Google Play, these terms become Airplop’s licence as soon as the app’s listing and its About screen link to them, before any purchase; until then, they add to the Google Play terms. The Google Play Terms of Service govern the purchase and your Google Play account.
Microsoft Store (Windows)
The Windows app is not on sale yet. On the Microsoft Store, these terms will be its licence, instead of Microsoft’s Standard Application License Terms, as soon as the app’s listing and its About screen link to them. The Microsoft Store Terms of Sale govern the purchase.

Where a store’s text and these terms conflict, the clause more favourable to you applies. The purchase itself follows the store’s terms and our terms of sale.

Your licence

When you buy Airplop, you get a licence to use the app, with no time limit. It is:

  • tied to your store account: you may install Airplop on the devices you own or control, within the limits set by that store;
  • shareable with family: we allow family sharing; with Apple’s Family Sharing or the Google Play Family Library, the members of your family group use Airplop without buying it again, under the store’s rules;
  • non-exclusive: other people can buy the same one;
  • non-transferable: apart from family sharing, you may not rent it, nor resell or assign it, except where the law allows you to.

On the App Store, one purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac, as soon as the Mac version is available there. Each store sells its own version: a purchase on one does not carry over to the others.

You may not distribute copies of the app, modify it, decompile it or extract its code, except where the law allows you to: a backup copy, studying how it works, interoperability with other software (Article L122-6-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code).

What you buy is this licence: the app itself remains the property of its publisher.

What Airplop does

Airplop sends files, folders, texts and links from one device to another nearby device, with Airplop installed on both: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android; a Windows version is planned.

  • Files go from one device to the other through your local network or, between two Apple devices, sometimes directly. They go neither through the internet nor through us.
  • Every connection is encrypted (TLS 1.3), and both devices prove their identity.
  • Every file is checked on arrival. It is only saved if it is identical, byte for byte, to the one that left.
  • Airplop recompresses nothing: it sends the bytes the device’s system gives it. On iPhone and iPad, an edited photo is sent in its current version, with its edits. On Android, without the “Photo location” permission, Android removes the location before handing photos to the app, and Airplop reminds you when you pick them.

What Airplop does not do

  • No account, no server, no ads, no tracking.
  • No online storage or backup: a file you send stays on the sending device and lands on the receiving one, nowhere else.
  • No automatic opening: a received file never opens on its own.

What it needs to work

Airplop connects nearby devices. These operating conditions are part of the app’s description: check them before you buy.

  • Airplop must be installed and open on both devices. An iPhone, iPad or Android device is only visible while Airplop is on screen.
  • With the default visibility, “My devices”, a device is only visible to your paired devices. For a first transfer, or with a device that isn’t yours, the receiving device first chooses “Everyone (10 min)”.
  • Both devices must be connected to the same local network (the same Wi-Fi, or a wired network) that lets them see each other. The only exception: two Apple devices, which the system can connect directly over Apple’s peer-to-peer Wi-Fi; on Mac, while Airplop’s window is open.
  • Wi-Fi must be on (or an Ethernet cable plugged in), and the permissions Airplop asks for granted: Local Network on iPhone, iPad and Mac (macOS 15 and later); Nearby devices on Android 12 and later, Location on Android 10 to 12. Bluetooth is used to spot nearby devices; it does not replace the local network.
  • On Android, this version sends folders of up to 2,000 files.
  • Some networks (guest, public, company) and some VPNs keep devices from seeing each other.
  • Speed depends on both devices and the link. We promise no particular speed.

The minimum system for each device is given, with its date, in the list of system requirements on the Download page. Connection details and fixes are in the help on connections between devices.

Codes and trusted devices

To add a device to “My devices”, Airplop shows a 6-digit code on both screens. Check that it is the same before confirming. If it differs, cancel: another device may be trying to get in between.

When a device is added, automatic acceptance is on for it: its transfers arrive without asking you. You can turn it off for each device, and with “No one”, nothing reaches you. Only add your own devices or those of people you trust, and remove a device you sell, give away or lose.

With visibility set to “Everyone (10 min)”, any nearby device can offer you files. You see its name, its fingerprint and what it offers, and you accept or decline each transfer.

What you send

You choose what you send, and to whom. You are responsible for it:

  • only send what you have the right to share;
  • do not use Airplop to transmit unlawful content, or to bother anyone;
  • check the receiving device before you send.

We never see your files. So we can neither check them, find them nor delete them on the recipient’s device, and a file that has arrived cannot be recalled.

As for what you receive: only accept what you expect, and be wary of a file from an unknown device.

Account and data

Airplop has no account: nothing to create, nothing to close. The app sends us no data. What it keeps (device name, keys, “My devices”, history, settings) stays on your devices. The details are in the privacy policy.

Updates

Updates are free. They come through the store where you bought the app.

  • Conformity updates: we supply the updates needed to keep the app in conformity, security updates included, for as long as you can reasonably expect, and we inform you of their availability and of the consequences of not installing them, in the store’s release notes (Article L224-25-25 of the French Consumer Code).
  • How to install them: keep the store’s automatic updates on, or open Airplop’s page in the store and choose “Update”.
  • If you do not install a conformity update within a reasonable time, we are not liable for a defect that results solely from this, on two conditions: we informed you of the update and of the consequences of not installing it, and your not installing it, or installing it incorrectly, is not due to shortcomings in our installation instructions (Article L224-25-25).
  • Our commitment: no update removes an existing feature of Airplop, and no update that is not needed for conformity reduces your access to the app or its use. Other changes, made for a valid reason (new features, new system versions, security), are free and described in the store’s release notes (“What’s New”).
  • If such an update nevertheless had a more than minor negative effect on your access to the app or its use, you could end the contract free of charge within the following 30 days, unless you can keep, free of charge, the previous version that remains in conformity (Article L224-25-26).
  • Your choice: you can turn off automatic updates for Airplop in the store’s settings, and install an update whenever you want, or not install an update that is not needed for conformity.

Legal guarantee of conformity

Like any digital content sold to a consumer, Airplop is covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (Articles L224-25-1 to L224-25-31 of the French Consumer Code). It costs you nothing, and no clause can reduce it.

  • The app must match its description and work as you can reasonably expect, with the necessary updates.
  • For an app supplied in a single act, like Airplop, the trader is liable for defects that appear within two years of supply.
  • During the first year, you only have to show that the defect exists, not when it appeared.
  • You can ask for the app to be brought into conformity, free of charge and without undue delay. Failing that, you can get a price reduction, or end the contract and be refunded.
  • The trader is not liable for a defect that results solely from an incompatibility with your device, if the technical requirements were clearly stated before you bought (Article L224-25-16): they are, in the dated list of system requirements and in the section What it needs to work.

For any problem, write to us first, at contact@galenstudio.fr: we are the ones who fix the app, and bringing it into conformity costs you nothing. You can claim the guarantee from us, as we grant you the app’s licence, and from the store, your seller (see who sells the app), to the extent its terms provide for it. The full text of the guarantee, and how to obtain a price reduction or a refund, are in the Legal guarantees section of the terms of sale.

Liability

We are liable, as provided by law, for damage caused by a failure on our part. No clause in these terms reduces this right to compensation, or any of your other consumer rights.

We are not liable for what does not depend on us, in particular:

  • the content of files sent or received, and what the sender and recipient do with them;
  • a failure or outage of your network, your device or a store that does not come from Airplop;
  • an event of force majeure.

These limits never set aside the legal guarantee of conformity or our update obligations: if Airplop stops working as described, including after an update of your system, they apply as the law provides. Let us know.

A tip: keep a backup of your important files. Airplop copies your files to another device; that is not a backup.

Intellectual property

The Airplop name, its logo and the app (code, texts, images) belong to their publisher. The licence transfers none of these rights to you, apart from the right to use the app as described here.

The app contains open-source software, each piece under its own licence. For those components, their licence applies.

Your files remain yours: we claim no rights over what you send.

Duration and changes

The licence has no time limit. You can stop using Airplop at any time by uninstalling the app, and reinstall it without paying again from the store where you bought it, as long as it is offered there. Airplop has no account and no server: we cannot disable it remotely.

We may update these terms, for example to follow the law or describe a new feature. The new version is published on this page, with its date. Without your consent, it cannot reduce the rights you acquired when you bought the app: for anything less favourable to you, the version in force when you bought continues to apply.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. Airplop can be bought in countries other than France: wherever it applies, you also keep the protection that the mandatory rules of your country of residence give you (in the European Union, Rome I Regulation, Article 6).

If something goes wrong, write to us first, at contact@galenstudio.fr. For a dispute about the purchase (payment, refund), also contact the store, under its own terms (see the terms of sale).

The European online dispute resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025 (Regulation (EU) 2024/3228). You can also bring the matter before the competent court.
